Startup Weekend is an intense 54 hour event which focuses on building a web or mobile application which could form the basis of a credible business over the course of a weekend. The weekend brings together people with different skillsets - primarily software developers, graphics designers and business people - to build applications and develop a commercial case around them. I organize the event in Columbus, and bring together sponsors, speakers, and participants.
As the Student Coordinator for NEWPATH, a National Science Foundation-funded entrepreneurship initiative in the Computer Science and Engineering Department, I recruited speakers, coordinated undergraduate research presentations, and set the weekly agenda for the organization.

I developed a multilingual content engine on top of the ExactTarget platform in Server-Side Javascript. I integrated Facebook's Like Buttons into email campaigns. I outlined an on-boarding process for new Solutions Consultants.
I worked as a software design engineer with an emphasis on testing automation. I gained experience in test case management working with agile tools such as Rally. I developed testing frameworks and automated test cases using Java, and Selenium RC to ensure functionality of scheduling web interfaces for Telepresence Exchange. I also conceptualized, designed, and implemented an automated Linux build deployment and testing infrastructure using Python, Maven, JBoss, and SVN.
My responsibilities included the following projects: o Developing the framework and plug-ins for a customizable web portal to replace the department's internal homepage. o Researching and implementing a system to create a modular documentation system using wikis, xml, and creating a web interface. o Writing software tools for server maintenance and ensuring uptime. The main focus of the internship was developing software that encouraged collaboration and modularization.

My responsibilities included technical support for staff members and web design for the district website, www.hudson.edu. I co-designed the site during the summer of 2006, and I maintained it through 2007. I used PHP, Javascript, HTML, and CSS on a Linux / Apache server with MySQL databases to develop the site.

Products: SeizeTheDay, Zero. Both are iPhone productivity apps. SeizeTheDay was released in July of 2010 and had it's 350,000th download in July of 2011. It was featured by Apple as "New and Noteworthy" and Time.com's "App of the week". I designed the app, and co-developed the iPhone client. Zero was released in July of 2011, and had it's 70,000th download in September of 2011. It was featured by Apple as "New and Noteworthy" as well as "What's Hot". I worked with Mike Kus to design the app, and developed the Python cloud syncing service.
Startup Weekend is a global network of passionate leaders and entrepreneurs on a mission to inspire, educate, and empower individuals, teams and communities. Come share ideas, form teams, and launch startups. As a facilitator, I travel to various weekends to represent Startup Weekend and the Global Sponsors, as well as be a resource for local organizers, run the event, and be a mentor for participants.
The Garage is the place for grassroots innovation at Mircosoft. It is where a community of over 3,000 hackers and makers come together to work on side projects, prototype new ideas, and build with others across the company. We host hackathons, Garage Weeks, Science Fairs, Stay Late and Code events weekly, and have local chapters across 10 locations worldwide.
